in Computational Biology with a focus on modelling of glioblastoma

Qualifications requested and eligibility:

Master’s of Science in Bioinformatics, or an equivalent Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Computer Science or Statistics. In the latter two cases, the candidate should present evidence of competence in basic molecular biology. Experience in machine learning methods and analysis of sequence data is a merit. The candidate should also have good communication skills and excellent study merits, and good skills in oral and written English.

announces an open competition for the position of

Assistant Professor

in the Department of Artificial Intelligence ICS PAS

 

Persons eligible for the competition are those who meet the terms specified in the Act of 30 April 2010 on the Polish Academy of Sciences (Dz. U.(Polish Journal of Laws), No 96, Item.619).

Candidates to the above position should meet the following conditions:

  1. PhD in biotechnology or chemistry granted not earlier than 5 years ago.
  2. Expertise in simulating biological systems and the analysis of interactions and dynamics of these systems, with particular emphasis on predicting protein structures and their complexes, analysis of interactions, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics of polyatomic systems.
  3. Basic knowledge of genetics and epigenetics with particular emphasis on mechanisms regulating the expression of genes and the final structure of proteins.
  4. Scientific achievements documented by publications and / or conference reports in the field of structural biology and computational modeling of the structure and pathways of protein folding and the interactions between proteins.
  5. Experience in using software for computer simulation and analysis of chemical and biological agents, in particular for: quantum chemistry, force fields, coarse grain simulations, modeling and visualization; prediction of protein structure and their complexes.
  6. Good knowledge of the Linux operating system and good programming skills.
  7. Basic knowledge of laboratory techniques including chromatography, electrophoresis, spectroscopy, calorimetry, microcalorimetry, cell culturing, purification, and synthesis of proteins.
  8. Experience in managing research projects and teaching students as well as completed internships at prestigious research units are welcome.
  9. Please list 2-3 persons who may provide references.

U. No 218, Item.1438, 2010; No 130, Item.753, 2011; No 93, Item.532, 2012).

post-doctoral position

in Computational Biology with a focus on modelling of glioblastoma

(starting date: from 2016-03-01, or by agreement as soon as possible thereafter)

 

Qualifications requested and eligibility:

The candidate should have a degree of PhD in bioinformatics, or biotechnology or molecular biology or a related field obtained at least 3 years ago and no later than 6 years ago, and satisfy the following conditions:

  • To have a proven track record of research in bioinformatics and molecular biology supported by publications in international journals and presentations at major national and international meetings;
  • To possess excellent knowledge of population genetics, regulation of gene expression as well as familiarity with genetics of common diseases with a special emphasis on cancer;
  • To be experienced in laboratory work, or at least have knowledge of basic laboratory protocols in the field of DNA isolation, DNA and RNA sequencing, cloning and preparation of libraries;
  • To be acquainted with international computer-based public repositories such as ENCODE, TCGA, the NIH Roadmap, GWAS or 1000 Genomes projects;
  • To be knowledgeable in the field of statistical analysis and programming in R, Python or Perl;
  • To be proficient in spoken and written English; and to have an excellent ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
